Newbies in London
I am no stranger to a spontaneous shoot! I was in London a couple of weeks ago and decided to do a little test shoot with my sister Jessica and her friend Kayleigh. We went for a walk around South London with the intent to film and found some pretty interesting textures on walls. The great thing about shooting in London is that every area has its own personality and historic importance which gives me a great level of inspiration for my videos.
I am pleased about the outcome of both videos. I shot completely hand held using a Canon C100 and DJI OSMO. From experience it's not quick switching between the two cameras as the OSMO takes a few minutes to set up each time I use it. I was able to match colours of the two cameras in post however, I noticed that some of Kayleigh’s slow mo OSMO shots were a little grainy. I’m not completely sure why this was, perhaps I had the ISO too high (I’ve noticed the OSMO can’t handle anything over ISO 200 in slow mo).
For test shoots I frequently use less experienced models to keep cost down. Although both girls were inexperienced to modelling, I felt they did a really good job. I did not give them much direction as I wanted to capture their true personalities. My portraits aim to capture the personality of the talent i'm filming or photographing and I achieve this by giving as little direction as possible to capture those natural moments. I also used music I felt was most appropriate to each girls personality.
